Love, The Root of All Excellence

Nearly everyone of us have all been wondering why some of the things that we do just don’t make an impact. We work hard, but nobody seems to notice our efforts. An employee maybe earning a salary that is envied by his friends, but for him work feels like a heavy boulder. We blame the corrupt politicians for our country’s poverty. Some people might the thinking that having a relationship with God is for the few powerful and perfect people. A few of us are probably thinking of solutions on how to fix our relationship with our friend, sister, or wife, but to no avail. You are popular, you’re like a rock star, people talk about you and your website around the internet, but at the end of the day, you feel sad. You want something to fill that void inside you.

But what do we really need? My answer is LOVE. Just simply love. Love gets the job done!

Athletes who love their game.
Ronaldo, a Brazilian footballer. As a kid he would dribble a football wherever he feels like going. for instance everytime his mother would sent him on an errand, he would always take with his football with him. Awarded twice as FIFA Football Player of the Year. He was sidelined for two years after a career threatening knee injury, but crawled up from the pit and became a hero during the 2004 World Cup.

In basketball, Michael Jordan considered being the greatest basketball player to have ever played the sport. I heard him said something like “The way to develop the mind, has always been through the heart. Love for the game, then the mental part is easy.”

Relationships
I used to get really irritated with my father. My father is sarcastic at times, and he asks the same questions over and over. I sometimes retaliate by insulting him back.

It’s different now though. I have to adjust myself, I have to accept my father and just love him back the way he is. I may correct him for his slightly irritating behavior, but in a loving way.

Dream Job
Before I went to college I was choosing between Architecture and Fine Arts. I asked for an advice, but from the one who was an Architecture student himself. It was obviously biased. He told me to choose Architecture, because there’s more money in it. But during my later part of my Architecture years, and flunked subjects left and right, I told myself “I should have taken up Fine Arts!”

Currently working now as a Webdesigner and loving it, I learned web designing without my own personal computer. I started dabbling graphics designing at age 27, I applied as a Graphic Designer even without graphics design experience, and gladly I was accepted. Then three years later at 30 years old I applied as a Web Designer even without prior official practice in web graphics. Miraculously got the position considering that in the Philippines age discrimination is widespread among employers.

Money should not be the primary goal, but love. Love for what you are doing.

However Love has an enemy, not Hate, but Laziness. We should constantly be watchful of ourselves about this.

Jesus Christ
Jesus would not have offered himself to be whipped and crucified if not for his love for us. God is love himself. Love is not God, but God is love. He is the master lover of all. If non Christians have someone to hate, it shouldn’t be Jesus Christ, but the Christians who always fall short of love.

One of their religion scholars spoke for them, posing a question they hoped would show him up: “Teacher, which command in God’s Law is the most important?”

Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: “Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.”
