Public Opinion

Nobody in this world can live through life without being emotionally affected by other people’s criticism. Be it positive or the opposite. There are a thousand ways to react to a criticism. A few literally silenced those who authored the criticism, others just brush it off in apathy, a number lashed back or whine and some just ponder other people’s words about them and may speak softly in response or just keep mum about it because there are more important things in life.I admire the last one. I want to constantly be that type of guy I talked about above. When I do, I just recall a pastor’s quote I heard many years ago, they are not paying you to listen to their opinions.

A friend who went to UP Diliman in Manila for her college education laughed at me when I told her over the phone that my accent is like Manny Pacquiao’s when I speak tagalog. Please read this and this to know why. If you’re too lazy to read that, an example is in the US, the southern/cowboy accent are laughingstock by those in the north. In China, Beijing Chinese ridicule those accents in the provinces.

Nobody is paying me to mimic the accent of Manilans. Besides I love to be identified as a Bisayan or Cebuano while I’m here in Manila. Though I still have to see or hear them laugh at my tagalog accent. Probably I’m just blessed to be associated by good natured tagalogs or they’re downright intimidated of my showbiz looks! Haha!

If you’re worried about what people will say about your appearance, just remember this are they paying you or do you pay them to heed to their opinions?

If your embarrassing past makes you want to hide, again remember this are they paying you or do you pay them to heed to their opinions?’

Although, don’t do anything that’s stupid first. If people start to negatively say things to you because of what you foolishly did to others, then it’s hard to justify by using this magic word: they are not paying you to listen to their opinions.

Don’t be selfish. Be nice by nature.

  1. There’s a saying that goes, “it’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.”
