Balangiga

The purpose of this post is not to incite further hatred towards America nor an expression of my own resentment, if there is. This is a sort of an eye-opener for everybody, so that we should not be quick to react in pure hatred and then ask God for a ball of fire to fall on the evil people or terrorists. We need to look at our own faults too.

9-11. It was on September 11, 2001 when Islamic extremists separated into three groups hijacked three commercial airplanes and two of them successfully smashed into the twin World Trade Center buildings respectively. About 5000 3000 people died.

The Americans were furious. I was furious. The whole world was furious. But then…

9-27 9-28. A similarly bloody date nobody cares to remember, Balangiga (bala-ngee-ga) in the island of Samar. In the fateful early morning of September 28, 1901 the American soldiers were doing their routine for that day’s work. Suddenly, a band of Filipino guerrillas armed only with bolos, massacred the men of Company C of the 9th Regular Infantry. Approximately 50 soldiers were hacked to death.

American soldiers retaliated to the “perpetrators” or “rebels” to pay for the “crimes” they had committed. They practically burned the whole town including the innocent villagers.

American Gen. Jacob “Howling Jake” Smith, ordered to “kill everyone over ten (years old).” Everyone means it included innocent women and children. Thousands of Filipinos died. (more…)

Why English Should be the Philippines Sole Official and Unifying Language

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

Presently, the Philippines have two official languages, English and Tagalog. English is commonly used in the Business and Academic institutions all over the archipelago, while Tagalog can be heard practically in the entertainment and news on national television. Tagalog is widely spoken in the northern part (Luzon) of the country.

The following are the basis I gathered on why I personally push for English to be the lone official language of the Philippines. (more…)

Love, The Root of All Excellence

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Nearly everyone of us have all been wondering why some of the things that we do just don’t make an impact. We work hard, but nobody seems to notice our efforts. An employee maybe earning a salary that is envied by his friends, but for him work feels like a heavy boulder. We blame the corrupt politicians for our country’s poverty. Some people might the thinking that having a relationship with God is for the few powerful and perfect people. A few of us are probably thinking of solutions on how to fix our relationship with our friend, sister, or wife, but to no avail. You are popular, you’re like a rock star, people talk about you and your website around the internet, but at the end of the day, you feel sad. You want something to fill that void inside you.

But what do we really need? My answer is LOVE. Just simply love. Love gets the job done!

Athletes who love their game.
Ronaldo, a Brazilian footballer. As a kid he would dribble a football wherever he feels like going. for instance everytime his mother would sent him on an errand, he would always take with his football with him. Awarded twice as FIFA Football Player of the Year. He was sidelined for two years after a career threatening knee injury, but crawled up from the pit and became a hero during the 2004 World Cup.

In basketball, Michael Jordan considered being the greatest basketball player to have ever played the sport. I heard him said something like “The way to develop the mind, has always been through the heart. Love for the game, then the mental part is easy.” (more…)

My Favorite Top Websites That Failed The Web Standards

Web Standards

By using W3 Consortium’s HTML Validator one can check whether a site is standards compliant or not.

According to their site: W3C primarily pursues its mission through the creation of Web standards and guidelines.

Basically the benefits of web standards are:
- Accessible to all devices (laptops, PCs, PDAs etc)
- Cross-browser compatibilty. No need to do another design specifically for a certain browser. Still a site is accessible even if browsers have updated versions.
- Easy to edit, remake compared to Flash and Table based websites.
- That means it saves time and money.
- Bandwidth friendly, another money saving factor.

1. Yahoo – 34 errors. Currently, the web’s star of all season in terms of site visit. So caught up with its popularity that it forgot to catch the errors running around at the back of its site.
2. Google – 47 errors. The leader in web search. Also a leader in errors.
3. Yugatech – 301 errors. A personal site of Abe Olandres. One of my personal favorite blogsites. (more…)

Virginia Tech Shooting, Who’s To Blame?

Friday, May 4th, 2007

According to psychologists, each individual is the sole person to blame for his own actions. Any rational explanation of each person’s actions would just worth a naught. The famous ‘The Devil made me do it!” line definitely is one of those reasons that are considered unacceptable from the psychologists’ point of view.

Cho Sheung-ho, the gunman, is the obvious perpetrator to blame alright, no doubt about that. Many witnesses saw him. But there should be other people around him to blame for one way or another.
